EGLE ANNOUNCES ADOPTION OF NEW PFAS MCLs FOR DRINKING WATER

On august 3rd 2020, the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team (MPART) officially announced the new PFAS state drinking water standards. Administered by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), these new standards will limit seven PFAS chemicals in drinking water. The new Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) also update Michigan’s existing clean-up criteria of 70 ppt for PFOS and PFOA for drinking water. The new MCLs are 8 ppt for PFOA and 16 ppt for PFOS. All new standards adopted are showed below:


• PFNA: 6-ppt

• PFOA: 8-ppt

• PFOS: 16-ppt

• PFHxS: 51-ppt

• GenX: 370-ppt

• PFBS: 420-ppt

• PFHxA: 400,000-ppt
